Should you do engagement photos?

We get asked by our couples and potential clients, should we do engagement photos? Seems silly to some people to do engagement photos. We have so many reasons why you should do them but ultimately we say YES! Not only is this a very exciting time in your lives, it’s an opportunity to savor in the moment forever. We promise the photos won’t be cheesy 🙂

We recommend engagement sessions to all of our couples because we believe they are a vital part of the wedding photography process. During your engagement session you get the opportunity to get to know us both, how we shoot and how we handle lighting/posing. Having a session with us before the wedding day really helps everything flow smoothly.

Engagement sessions can happen anytime before the wedding. Think of it as a more casual photo shoot. Are you going to want to post photos from your wedding day all the time? If you’re thinking yes I will never stop posting my wedding photos, we love that!!! BUT if you do engagement photos, you can have professional photos of you and your significant other in something other than wedding attire! Some of our couples come to us specifically for an engagement session or couples shoot just to have some nice professional photos to enjoy. We can help you pick a location if you don’t have one in mind, and then we adventure around and capture some of the most genuine moments.

For our couples who have beloved fur babies, we are happy to have them along during the session for some photos! WE LOVE THIS! We recommend bringing a friend to hold them in between.

Some of our couples have a large print or canvas displayed at their wedding reception and we think this is such a nice touch! Traditionally it’s a bridal portrait but we love an engagement photo displayed too. After the wedding, you get to have it hanging in your home forever!

I know what you’re thinking… being in front of the camera is SO awkward! This is the most common thing we run into with every one of our couples. Even if you’ve never had professional photos taken before, we promise to make you feel comfortable in front of our cameras. After each engagement or couples session, our couples tell us how much fun they had and how it didn’t really feel like they were getting photos taken. This is our main goal – we want you to feel like you’re hanging with friends so that we can capture amazing photos of you and your love.
